Letter of Recognition

Behind a closed door in a non-descript location, Wasco County 911 dispatchers are at the ready.  Long considered the “Tip of the Spear” they stand watch 24/7 waiting to “take the call”. Cassie receiving an award

On a cool January 2024 mid-day shift the 911 center received a distress call about a male subject having a heart attack at a local commercial facility in The Dalles.  Receiving this call were dispatchers Sue Miller and Cassie Caron.  As the received the call they immediately went into action by assisting the bystanders with CPR over the phone.  While this was happening they simultaneously dispatched medics from Mid-Columbia Fire and Rescue.  In a matter of moments medics were enroute to the location and upon arrival began life saving measures to the patient.  The patient was then transported to Adventist Health of the Gorge where he recovered and is now doing well.

While most of you see men and women in uniform you never get to see what is happening behind the closed door I mentioned above.  Your 911 dispatchers stand at the ready to take the call no one ever wants to make, but are always prepared to make split second decisions that can affect the lives of those calling 911.

As the Wasco County Sheriff I want to express my sincerest appreciation to Sue and Cassie for their commitment as 911 dispatchers but more importantly their commitment to the citizens they serve.  They have displayed the Wasco County Sheriff’s Office Core Value of Excellence by providing Superior Service to a citizen in need and assisting with the saving of a life.

Sue and Cassie thanks for your service.
